Isaac and Caroline Rooks
Isaac, the sixth child and fourth son of Abraham and Fanny was baptised at All Saints Castle Camps on 4th March 1826. When aged about 23, he married local lass Caroline BELSHAM, who had been born in the village on 2 Seeptember 1821, and baptised 24 March 1822. She was the eldest child and daughter of John BELSHAM, a thatcher, and his wife Margaret nee TAYLOR. In the 1851 Census Isaac and Caroline were living at Harts House where Isaac was a labourer.
They had three children that we know of, and in 1859 emigrated to Victoria, Australia with Isaac's brothers Abraham and Francis.
Their children were as follows:
- Fanny Rooks baptised 9 August 1849 in Castle Camps. Fanny died in 1895 after choking on a piece of fat in the Kew Lunatic Asylum, in Victoria where she had been living for the previous 5 years.
- Arthur Allen Rooks was baptised 11 July 1852 in Castle Camps. He was 5 when the family emigrated and later married Charlotte WILLS and had 11 children. He died in 1917.
- Robert Rooks bc 1856 Castle Camps.
Isaac died in 1902 at the age of 76 years, 1 month and 25 days (according to his death index entry!) and was a widower, Caroline having died the year before aged 79.
